BYU Bookstore continues Christmas Bear tradition

Customers at the BYU Bookstore who purchase more than $100 of merchandise by Dec. 3 will receive an 18-inch stuffed plush bear that they can choose to donate to children at local charities.

The Christmas bears will be donated to either the Pediatrics Unit at the Utah Valley Regional Center or the Children’s Justice Center.

“This is a great opportunity to reach out to the kids in our community,” said Rowdy Symons, Bookstore Creative Services manager. “We hope this makes Christmas even more special for everyone involved.”

The Bookstore has been sponsoring teddy bear donations since 2002 and has donated more than 3,000 bears since the program was first initiated. "Both the Pediatrics Unit and the Justice Center can use all the bears the Bookstore can provide," said Symons.

The bears will ride in the ambulances with the paramedics when they pick up children, be given to children who come into abuse shelters with their mothers and be distributed at the annual party for the Children with Cancer Christmas Foundation.
