Elder Ulisses Soares, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is scheduled to speak during Brigham Young University's commencement exercises on Thursday, April 23, at 10 a.m.
BYU President C. Shane Reese will conduct the exercises, which will be held in person and broadcast live on BYUtv from the Marriott Center.
All college convocations will be held April 23–24. Individual colleges will communicate their respective details about convocations.
About the Speaker
Elder Ulisses Soares was sustained to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on March 31, 2018.
At the time of his call, he had been serving as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy since January 2013.
Previously, Elder Soares served as a counselor in the Africa Southeast Area, president of the Brazil Area and a counselor in the Brazil South Area. He also served as a full-time missionary in the Brazil Rio de Janeiro Mission, stake president and president of the Portugal Porto Mission (2000–2003).
Elder Soares received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and economics from the São Paulo Pontifical Catholic University School of Economic Science in 1985 and later received an MBA degree.
His professional career has included the positions of accountant and auditor for multinational corporations in Brazil and director for temporal affairs in the Church area office in São Paulo, Brazil.
