Brigham Young University will construct 11 new apartment buildings at the Wymount Terrace on-campus housing area to replace existing aging buildings.
Wymount Terrace serves as an on-campus housing facility for married students, and students with dependent children.
“Wymount Terrace has served BYU student families for more than 60 years. This investment will help ensure that those who call Wymount home continue to have an affordable, supportive environment where they can thrive,” said Steve Hafen, CFO and administration vice president at BYU.
Crews will raze nine buildings on the south section of Wymount Terrace.
In their place, BYU will construct 11 new buildings replacing 240 apartments for families. The new buildings will be three-story structures featuring two and three-bedroom apartments.
“This project aims to enhance living facilities and the overall student experience while fostering Christ-centered communities,” said Todd Fischio, director of residence life at BYU. “In the future, families will have access to affordable, conveniently located, energy-efficient and well-maintained apartments.”
Construction on the new buildings will begin in July and is estimated to be completed in two years.
The work will be done in phases. BYU Residence Life and Family Housing leadership has relocated all families affected by the construction into comparable housing accommodations.
Wymount Terrace has served student families at BYU since it was built in 1962.
