New works by BYU students Austin Lopez and Caleb Cuzner will be performed in concert on Feb. 9 and 10.

Scheherazade

“Scheherazade” by Rimski-Korsakoff is one of the most famous and popular classical works of all time, based on the classic folk tales, “One Thousand and One Nights,” also known as the “Arabian Nights.”

The performance begins with the “Violin Concert no. 1” by Dmitri Shostakovich with artist Alex Woods. The second half of the concert is given over to Sergei Rachmaninoff's famous “Symphony no. 2, in E Minor.”

The Philharmonic is the flagship orchestra of the five orchestras in the BYU School of Music. This performance is an annual event that will feature the best junior, senior and graduate students in the School of Music.

The concert will feature music from American composers such as Bernstein, Copland, John Williams, Gershwin and more.

The widely-acclaimed ensemble, showcasing approximately 95 of BYU’s finest student musicians, will feature three landmark works for the orchestra.

The School of Music presents the Chamber Orchestra in concert on Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m., in the de Jong Concert Hall of the Harris Fine Arts Center.
