The Brigham Young University College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences will hold its 27th Annual Student Research Conference Saturday, March 9, at 8 a.m. in 1102 Jesse Knight Building. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
“The essence of this conference is to give students experience in orally presenting their research results,” said associate dean Tom Sederberg. “Communication is a skill that will be every bit as important as scientific skills in their future careers.”
The conference will include student presentations from each of the seven departments within the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences: chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, geological sciences, mathematics and mathematics education, physics and astronomy and statistics.
In previous years, students have covered a wide range of topics in their presentations, from fighter jet acoustics to the effects of social media on health and more. The conference gives both graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to practice their communication skills and receive valuable feedback on their current field of research.
