Currently I’m working on… marriage and family life in Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities as part of the American Families of Faith project.
I’m currently reading… The Triumph of Faith by Rodney Stark and Not in God’s Name by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.
What makes teaching the greatest job in the world is… learning and teaching curious students about things that really matter.
My favorite lecture to teach is… what Latter-day Saint families can learn from how our Jewish friends observe Shabbat (the Sabbath).
My favorite BYU athlete is... Eli Herring, who turned down millions from the NFL to teach math and coach in high school.
My most cherished memory at BYU was when… my wife, Mary, and I would spend time with our infant daughter, Rachel, in Mary’s father’s office at the Law School (he put a crib in his office).
My favorite spot on campus is… The outdoor tennis courts just before dawn on a summer morning. The moon is still out but the sun is on its way up, the air is cool but warming, and the only sound is the sweet “thwack” of the ball being struck in the center of the strings. It is practically a religious experience!
On Saturday afternoons you’ll find me… taking my kids out to lunch at any number of local places (their choice) including the Cougareat and the BYU Creamery, usually after bowling.
