BRAVO! Professional Performing Arts presents an award-winning composer with an award-winning Broadway star for a night of spectacular music. Kelli O’Hara, who won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Anna Leonowens in “The King and I,” will team up with Jason Robert Brown, who won a Tony Award for the musical score of “Parade.”
Both stars are dynamic in their craft as evidenced by their numerous awards and nominations. The performance brings the return of O’Hara to BYU’s campus but will be the first visit for Brown. Together, the two will perform songs from “Bridges of Madison County” and “The Last Five Years” in addition to other works that will be announced from the stage. Brown wrote music and lyrics for the musical adaption of “Bridges of Madison County” and O’Hara starred in its 2014 Broadway premiere.
"It is a rare privilege to have not one, but two of Broadway’s greatest talents," said BRAVO! Producer Bridget Benton. "We are thrilled to welcome both Kelli O’Hara and Jason Robert Brown to our stage."
O’Hara is one of Broadway’s great leading ladies. She has performed on Broadway, off-Broadway, in operas, on film and TV. Some of her Broadway productions include “Jekyll & Hyde,” “The Light in the Piazza,” “South Pacific” and “Nice Work if You Can Get it.” Most recently, she was announced as the lead role in the Broadway revival of “Kiss Me, Kate.”
Not only is Brown a renowned composer and lyricist, but he is also a talented director and performer. Some of his works include “The Last Five Years,” “Songs for a New World” and “Parade.” Recent conductor and arranger credits include “Urban Cowboy the Musical,” “Dinah Was” and “A New Brain.”
This concert will be the last BRAVO! performance in 2017. The BRAVO! season will continue with Hilary Hahn and the Utah Symphony on Jan. 4, 2018.
