BYU joins elite company in latest U.S. News rankings

Brigham Young University joined Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford Tuesday when it was named a Top 10 Best Value school in U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 Best Colleges rankings.

The ranking, which takes into account a school’s academic quality and cost of attendance, also included MIT, Columbia, Cal-Tech, Dartmouth and Cornell.

BYU also continued its upward surge in other categories from U.S. News’ annual rankings, including rising six spots to 62nd among all national universities.

BYU surged four spots to 27th among undergraduate business programs, while also posting strong marks in two specialty business rankings: No. 3 for Accounting and No. 8 for International Business.

The 2014 Best Colleges guidebook ranks more than 1,800 four-year accredited colleges and universities. BYU falls into the category of "national universities," which includes schools that offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral degrees.

This year BYU also moved up to 4th in the category of “Least Debt,” which compares the average debt carried by departing graduates.

The Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology was also listed among the top engineering schools, with its undergraduate program ranked 78th.

Princeton took the top spot in the "national universities" category, followed by Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Stanford.
