Lee Library lecture to consider “Utah and the Civil War” Feb. 1

The Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University will host its first House of Learning lecture of winter semester, “Utah and the Civil War” by Kenneth L. Alford, BYU associate professor of Church history.

The lecture will take place on Friday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. in the library auditorium on level 1. Admission is free and the public is invited.

The lecture is in conjunction with the library’s Civil War exhibit. Visitors on level one will be able to view letters, photographs and other artifacts from the Civil War, as well as hear speeches and watch videos dedicated to the era.

Alford has served as an active Army duty officer for 29 years and taught at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York and at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. Alford specializes in the American Civil War and LDS involvement in military conflicts. His latest book is “Civil War Saints.”
