BYU stages "Children of Eden" at Pardoe Theatre Nov. 11-Dec. 5

Brigham Young University will present the musical “Children of Eden” in the Harris Fine Arts Center’s Pardoe Theatre Nov. 11-21 and Dec. 1-5. The showings will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available through byuarts.com or at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322. Reduced-price matinee and preview performance tickets are also available. This event is featured in the artsPASS and Pardoe Series season ticket packages. There will be no shows Sundays or Mondays.

“Children of Eden,” with a book by John Caird, retells the stories of Adam and Eve and Noah from the book of Genesis. The songs for the musical were composed by Steven Schwartz, who also penned the music of Disney’s “Enchanted” and the hit musical “Wicked.”

Featuring a score of ballads, love songs and gospel spirituals, the play focuses on the relationships between the Father and his children. It reveals that every family has challenges but that families can leave behind a powerful legacy for future generations.

Jeffrey Martin will be directing the production. Martin earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and undergraduate degrees from BYU and Ricks College. He worked on Broadway in general management for the companies of “42nd Street,” “Blast!” and “Urinetown.”

The production will also feature the work of Pat Debenham as choreographer and Gayle Lockwood as music director. Scenic design is by Rory Scanlon and Adisti Regar, costume design is by Jaynanne Meads, lighting design is by Anna Kron and sound design is by Troy Streeter. Technical and running crews will be comprised of students enrolled in Theatre and Media Arts 360.
