BYU School of Music lists free events April 1-4

The Brigham Young University School of Music will host four free events on campus from Tuesday, April 1, through Friday, April 4.

• The Symphonic Band will perform a “Basically British” concert on Tuesday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The band will perform several pieces, most by British composers, including Paul Basler’s “Carnival” and Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E flat.

• String Chamber night will be held on Wednesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The concert will feature students performing the works of Debussy, Brahms, Dvorak, Grieg and other noted composers.

• The Trombone Choir will perform on Thursday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. Under the direction of Will Kimball, the choir will perform several well-known pieces, including George Gershwin’s “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

• Faculty artist Michael Hicks will perform folk songs from the 1960s in a concert to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Friday, April 4, at 9:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.
